My yoga classes are suitable for people of all ages and levels of ability, and ideal for beginners. Before your first class you’ll be asked to fill in a short questionnaire, so I’m aware of your particular needs and any pre-existing injuries or health conditions. I aim to make everyone feel safe and comfortable in the class.
A typical class starts with some gentle warm-up poses, to stretch the spine and open up the joints. I encourage you to be aware of your breath, and use it to help you relax your body and deepen the stretches.
We will then usually practise a series of slow, gentle poses: on the mat, sitting/kneeling or standing. Each pose (‘asana’) works on flexibility, balance and/or strength. Sometimes we move into a flowing sequence of poses. I always aim to provide alternative versions of the poses/movements, so that everyone is able to take part.
At all times I encourage you to listen to your body and to enter/stay in a pose for as long as feels comfortable. The last 5 minutes or so of the class is dedicated to savasana: complete relaxation. Bring a blanket and pillow for added comfort!
