If you do any sport or activity that involves lots of running, like football, yoga can help balance out your training. Dog face down, for example, gives hamstrings and calves a good stretch, while squatting poses encourage flexibility in the knees, hips and ankles – vital for maintaining the legs’ overall ability to absorb shock.
Manchester City midfielder David Silva has said of his yoga practice:
“With so many games to play, anything that helps you prepare is good… I find the yoga has sharpened me up. It helps to make me quick enough to avoid the challenges I get in the Premier League.”
In summer 2018, the England football team practised yoga to recover after their World Cup matches.
